Frequently asked questions
Will my PDF look the same as in Word?
Very close. Calibri, Cambria, Arial, Times New Roman and Courier New are replaced with fonts that have the same character widths (Carlito, Caladea and Liberation), so text wraps and pages break where Word puts them. Other fonts fall back to the nearest match.
Can I convert .doc files?
Not directly. Open the .doc in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice and save it as .docx, then convert that.
What isn’t supported yet?
Multi-column page layouts, charts, SmartArt, EMF/WMF drawings and right-to-left scripts. Text that wraps around a floating picture is placed below it instead.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. ModifyPDF processes files with JavaScript inside your browser. Your documents never leave your device, and nothing is stored after you close the page.
What carries over
Paragraph and character styles, theme fonts, bold, italic, underline, colours and highlighting, bulleted and numbered lists, tab stops with dot leaders, tables with merged cells, borders, shading and repeated header rows, pictures, text boxes, headers and footers with page numbers, hyperlinks, page breaks and footnotes.
Fonts and page breaks
Office fonts can’t be shipped with a website, so the converter uses free fonts built to the same measurements: Carlito for Calibri, Caladea for Cambria, and Liberation fonts for Arial, Times New Roman and Courier New. Each line holds the same words, so pages end where they do in Word.
Private by design
The document is read and laid out by your browser. Only the font files are downloaded from ModifyPDF; your document never leaves your device. Several documents can be converted at once and downloaded together as a ZIP.
